Dark Comedy/War ‧ PG ‧ 1h 35m ‧ 1964
Directed by Stanley Kubrick and starring Peter Sellers (in various roles!) and George C. Scott, this 1964 Oscar-nominated film satire of Cold War politics explores what could happen if the wrong person pushed the wrong button. U. S. Air Force General Jack D. Ripper goes completely insane and sends his bomber wing to destroy the Soviet Union. The attack triggers a path to global nuclear destruction that a war room full of politicians and generals frantically tries to avert.
The film was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Director. It is widely considered one of the best comedy films and one of the greatest and most influential films ever made. In 1989, the United States Library of Congress included Dr. Strangelove as one of the first 25 films selected for preservation in the National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."
