Horror/Crime ‧ R ‧ 1h 58m ‧ 1991
This 1991 psychological thriller earned five Academy Awards -- best picture, best actress, best actor, best director and best screenplay — and is regularly cited by critics, film directors, and audiences as one of the greatest and most influential films. Jodie Foster stars as Clarice Starling, a top student at the FBI's training academy. FBI Behavioral Science Unit chief Jack Crawford (Scott Glenn) wants Clarice to interview Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins), a brilliant psychiatrist who is also a violent psychopath, serving life behind bars for various acts of murder and cannibalism, to help solve another serial killer case. Crawford believes that Lecter may have insight into the case and that Starling, as an attractive young woman, may be just the bait to draw him out.
The film was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically" significant by the U.S. Library of Congress and was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry in 2011.
