Robert Schneider is an Austin-based musician who embarked on a solo career in 1999 after stints with a variety of bands. Known for his diverse musical style that blends elements of pop, rock, folk, and country, he began courting a national fan base with 2001’s Lonelyland, his major-label debut for Universal Recordsis. He has released over 20 studio albums and is recognized for his engaging live performances and improvisational skills.
Robert was born in Michigan and raised in Germany, where his father pursued a career as a professional opera singer. As a boy, Robert studied piano and guitar, often performing at family parties and backing his father on drums at nightclubs throughout his youth in Germany and Texas. He went on to study art – his other primary passion and avocation – at the University of Texas El Paso, before moving to Austin and establishing himself as a musician.
Thanks to his big fan base, Robert has won more Austin Music Awards than any other musician, including Best Album, Best Songwriter, Best Musician, and Best Male Vocals, rounding in at 59 total awards to date. He continues to have a long-standing Monday night residency at the Saxon Pub in Austin.
