An Evening with Susan Gibson & Walt Wilkins

  • Odeon Theater 122 Moody Street Mason, TX, 76856 United States (map)

Susan Gibson

Susan Gibson and Walt Wilkins will be on stage together at the Odeon on May 9, accompanied by Bart De Win on piano. Both members of the Red River Songwriters, Susan and Walt have shared the stage often at special performances in a unique song swap format. Susan is one of the most respected singer/songwriters in the country with one of the top-selling country songs of all time to her name -- “Wide Open Spaces” -- penned when she was just 22. The huge hit, hailed by the Record Industry Association of America as one of the “songs of the century,” launched The Dixie Chicks (now The Chicks) career and earned Susan “CMA Songwriter of the Year.” Over the course of her career, The West Texas Music Hall of Fame Entertainer of the Year has released seven solo albums. Her most recent, "The Hard Stuff,” was welcomed with rave reviews.

Walt Wilkins

Walt is well known to Odeon audiences. A near constant presence on the Texas Music Chart since its inception, he has been called a genius, a poet and a Texas treasure. His work has been likened to the greatest and most timeless of the Texas/American troubadours and his writing has even been compared to John Steinbeck. His well crafted story-songs, hard-edged vocals and plaintive guitar have made him a fixture of the Texas music scene. Walt has over 100 songs recorded by other artists and has released eight solo records, including four with his band The Mystiqueros, and one with his singer-songwriter wife, Tina.

Bart De Win

Bart, who is from the Netherlands, studied jazz piano and vocals in Rotterdam, but was inspired by Americana music, leading him in a more “rootsy” direction. His jazz background blended in easily with his newly developed authentic style. His music, while hard to classify, has been described as a crossover between Americana, blues, gospel and jazz.

We’re thrilled to welcome Susan, Walt and Bart to the Odeon for a not-to-be-missed performance.
