One of the Odeon’s most popular performers, Johnny Nicholas, returns to our stage on Saturday, January 17. A consummate songwriter and great singer, he can mesmerize a listening room or bring a festival crowd to their feet. After years of soaking up the music scene on the East Coast, Midwest, Louisiana and Texas, Johnny’s original music is full-spectrum Americana —a rich gumbo of blues, Southwest Louisiana soul, Texas swing, honky tonk and rock ‘n’ roll.
Johnny’s roots music pedigree is long, deep and rich, having performed, toured and recorded with music legends such as Bonnie Rait, blues master Big Walter Horton, Cajun musician Link Davis, Nathan Abshire, Grammy Award-winning Austin band Asleep at the Wheel and Johnny Shines just to name a few. He has nine albums to his credit, including his 2018 release “Too Many Bad Habits” reissue project and double vinyl package, which received a 2019 Grammy Nomination. In 2022, Johnny and guest artists, including Marcia Ball, Linda Gail Lewis, and Earl P. Ball, previewed songs from his 2023 “Moon and the Stars: Tribute to Moon Mullican” album at the Odeon.
