Singer/songwriter Willis Allen Ramsey is a legend among fans of Americana and Texas country music. Raised in Dallas, Texas, Ramsey recorded his self-titled, and only, album just a few years out of high school. Songs from that critically acclaimed album have been recorded by other artists including the band America, Captain and Tennille, Jimmy Buffett, The Bellamy Brothers, Shawn Colvin, Jerry Jeff Walker and American Aquarium. Ramsey's first regional hit Northeast Texas Women celebrates the "cast iron curls and aluminum dimples" of Texas women from Dallas to Dimebox.
Ramsey"s status as a hero of Texas music has only continued to grow over time. His stirring ballads and story songs about tragic characters including Montana barmaids, small town petty thieves and Woody Gutherie are made to be heard and embraced in a setting like the Odeon, not shouted over in a honkytonk. Most artists who only record one album fade from public memory. But Willis Alan Ramsey's fans are still clamoring for a follow-up album.
